About Us

Jasmin Lafond, known as Jae, is the founder of Jae Stylez, Marilyn Jae Cosmetics and The Lox Box hair care line, serving clients throughout Southwest Houston and the surrounding areas.

Her love of hair started young. As a girl she braided anything she could get her hands on, from her dolls' hair to the grass in the yard. By middle school she was experimenting with her own look and practicing on anyone who would sit still, and by high school her passion had become a business.

After a short time at Prairie View A&M University, she realized her calling was cosmetology and left to train at Ogle School of Hair, Skin & Nails. She has spent ten years in the industry since.

The early years were not easy. She dipped into her savings to cover her salon chair when clients were slow, handed out about 50 business cards a day, and took a job at a beauty supply store to learn the products while her clientele grew. That retail income carried her until her book filled up.

Today Jae focuses on natural hair, from locs to intricate braid styles, with hair health as the priority. Marilyn Jae Cosmetics is named for her late grandmother, and The Lox Box was born from a need for better ingredients: Lavender Rose Water hydration spray, Stimulating Scalp Oil, water-based Crown Control gel and Hair Whip for deep moisture.

She wants clients to ask questions and learn what works for their own hair, because a true specialist offers knowledge and care along with the style.
